在托福口语考试里同学们反馈task 2有这样的问法:
Do you agree or disagree that female and male students should live in separate residential halls?
你是否同意,男女生应该住在不同的宿舍楼里?
正方:应该住在不同的宿舍楼,因为blablabla…..
反方:应该住在同一栋宿舍楼,因为blablabla…..
一、选择观点
这道托福口语话题应该很难用到中立或分情况讨论的持方到底选哪个,一般而言有两种策略:
1. 纯粹为了答题方便,将话题之间的语料进行关联,能用套路就用套路。
2. 追随内心呼唤,或按常理对题干本身进行独立思考,现场翻译,拒绝套路。
如果采用第1种策略
各位同学在托福考试时能想到的应该是选反方,理由如下:
住在一起更方便大家结交盆友,互相帮助促进感情,blabla…..
但如果用第2种策略
放眼望去,全球范围内比较常见的住宿政策应该是正方,live in separate residential halls, 理由如下:
分开住宿,更方便校方管理,避免尴尬,保持距离美,blablabla…..
二、填充细节
观点有了但很多同学的疑虑是:细节如何填充,只罗列本方优点的话,会不会过于单调说不满45秒?
而第二种,让步再转折,即先扬后抑的方式,很有说服力,也比较容易操作,因为两个选项的优点都有所提及和比较,显得我们的答题思路和论证也更加全面和周到,同时解决了托福口语里单维度找优点,细节不容易填满,不容易说够45秒的尴尬。
根据这种方法我们再回到这道托福口语题,答案可以这样设计:
I totally agree with the statement. Some people may argue that it would be convenient if male and female students were living together in one building, like we could help each other and make friends with each other more easily.
先承认对立面的好处,譬如住在同一栋楼里,更容易交友,更方便等。
But I still think this policy would cause more unintended trouble than the so-called convenience.
强转折但我认为这个政策会带来更多事与愿违的麻烦。
Let us say举例论证麻烦的具体体现:洗澡前后在楼道里怎么穿着才合适且方便;对宿舍管理员工作带来额外工作量等。
